Since I've been writing nearly all my life, I thought it about time to have my own Author Fan Page on Facebook. This way I can do more things with FB than with a regular FB page.
So please, pop over and say hello, and like me.

A mix of two old worlds in the new world.

Windsor, Nova Scotia, boasts the birthplace of hockey and the biggest pumpkins and an old fort I can't seem to find anymore. But it also has this old pub, Scottish style.

The Spitfire Arms has a street level patio, built for the summer only, as is popular here, and we found it when we decided to walk around the town late one evening.

Picture this. A warm summer wind, an outdoor pub and some long old cars driving past teens hanging out.  It was Canadian Grafitti. But still, we sat out there and enjoyed the evening, ordering draughts and a vegetarian curry. Indian food is very popular in the UK and is therefore on the menu here.

It was delicious and a bit spicy. The sauce was a bit powdery but actually quite tasty, and on a bed of mixed white and wild rice. With the draughts, it went down nicely. The service was excellent, and though I didn't walk inside, it had a live band we could listen to.

A seminar on Archaeology and onto matching food

We attended a fascinating lecture on ossuaries and first century crucifixions, along with a warning that certain archaeologists on TV may be editing reputable experts' words. It was an excellent reminder to us that mainstream media doesn't always tell the whole story. We learned it later when we sat in on a seminar on Lebanon, sworn enemies of Syria, but who are helping those displaced by war. A full morning, but one that left us hungering for the food of the region.
Hence the trip to Wolfville's Turkish and Mediterranian Restaurant.

We'd eaten a lot this trip so we were looking for something light. Having been to Cyprus, we knew of Mezzies, a small tray of appetizers, so we opted for one of them and to split an entree. The Mezzie, below, had more, but I'd already dug in before I remembered to take the photo.

It was delightful! The tomato and sauce under it were very nice, the bread hot and soft, and there were even a dolmade, plus cuke, olive, and more hummus. Our entree was a spicy chicken wrap served with a yogurt sauce that filled us up just right. Water is served in a large recorkable bottle and we ate it all outside in the shade. The perfect way to end the lectures we'd attended.

The Cape of Gold

After we visited Cape Chignecto Provincial Park (did you read the previous post?) we drove down to Cape D'Or. It's said that when Samuel de Champlain saw the cliffs, he thought they looked like gold. It wasn't gold but copper, but it was also something else. It stands at the edge of one ancient continent as it butts against another. Here is looking over from one continent to another.

The main reason we visited Cape D'Or was for the lighthouse. It's automated now, but still a beautiful site.

The climb down was easy. We weren't looking forward to climbing back up. So we stuck around checking out such things as the fog horn.

I wouldn't want to be standing there when that goes off! We walked down past it to the Dory Rips, a section of shore that is very dangerous to boats. You can sure see it, even on this calm and beautiful day.

In my final post in this series, I'll show you some beautiful shoreline and one place with a fantastic view. Come back soon!

From one ancient continent to another.

Today we decided to take a little day trip, and ended up traveling through time. We visited Cape Chignecto Provincial Park in Nova Scotia, since we're camping in this province anyway. To my delight, we found that the nearest trail led down to the beach, which is also the site of the fault line between two ancient continents that made up Pangea. While the fault line isn't visible this year, evidence of it is.

Here you see my hubby, Allan, standing beside the outcropping that is as close as we can get today, since it's not visible. Below, you see the sign and in the bottom left is what it's looked like in previous years. It still shifts occasionally, and since I may never see the San Andreas fault out west, this is as close as I am going to get.

Oddly, on the other side of the fault, in the other continent, are the Red Rocks, sitting on the beach as if plunked down by God himself in a moment of Impressionism.

Yup, that's me. We also took in the Cape D'Or lighthouse, another awesome site, but that's for the next blog post. So stay tuned.
