In a show of national pride, I decided to put the flag out closer to the road this July First. The wind was blowing as usual around here, and I was able to snap this shot.
Now, for my readers who aren't Canadian, allow me to tell you a bit about this special day. July First is Canada Day, the day we came together as a nation, the Dominion of Canada. We celebrate the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act, 1867 (today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which united three colonies into a single country called Canada within the British Empire.
But lately, Canadians can also celebrate all we have contributed to the world. I asked my niece and nephew what Canada has given the world. They said,
1. Peace through the United Nations
2. D-Day, where Canadian soldiers landed on Juno Beach on June 6th 1944. Much was sacrificed that day for world freedom.
On a lighter note, we Canadians also gave the world:
1. William Shatner. Would Star Trek have been as good?
2. Beavertails and Timbits. If you've never tried one, come on up!
3. Chris Hadfield. Just the coolest astronaut that ever lived.
4. Canadarm. We can pluck anything out of space.
What else do you think of when you think of Canada? Inukshuks? Maple Syrup? Cow's Ice Cream? The largest mall in the world? Niagara Falls? Lord Stanley's Cup?
Comment on what you think of when Canada is mentioned.

Happy Canada Day, Barbara!
Lyn, thank you so much. It's a bit windy there, but nice and quiet. We love it!
Happy Canada Day to your, also!
Happy Canada Day! Your house is lovely, Barbara. As a US citizen who lives close to the Canadian border, I immediately think of our blessings to share a peaceful border. On the lighter side, I also think of hockey! My mom raised all of us to be hockey fans. Thank you, Canada.
Christine, thank you! What state do you live in? And yes, ours is a peaceful border. It's wonderful. And of course, so is hockey. Did you watch the NHL draft? My hubs did.
A refuge from the U.S.A. hehe
